Chris (Freeman) is struggling mentally with the emotional strain of his job.
Every night he drives a police response vehicle in and around Liverpool, dealing with crimes relating to anything from neighbours at war to drug dealers and drug users.
The stresses of his job, combined with living in an unhappy marriage have bought on a nervous breakdown.
His wife Kate (Buring) has offered to pay for him to have more counselling to help, but Chris doesn't want to, preferring to try and deal with the problems he is having, on his own and in his own way.
But now he is reaching breaking point.
Now partnered with a rookie policewoman, who needs his help with her training, the two of them have to find a way through.
BBC1 24th January at 9.00 p.m.
